2002-09-12 - 5:57 p.m. So, I actually ended up going to the memorial yesterday at the park and it was not bad. Nobody was talking. There was just a guy on a stage playing the guitar and a bunch of people sitting around in the grass. He wasn't playing a bunch of patriotic stuff...just nice background electric guitar. There were a few sculptures with tags for all the people who were killed in the bombings. Very tasteful and quite moving, I must say. We didn't stay long because Baby Lou wanted to be put down on the grass, but once I'd put her down she'd start her quickest, slappy-footed Godzilla moves toward the people reclined on the grass. And, if I know her, and I think I do, she would have tried one of her wrastlin' moves on them if I let her get anywhere near them. It seemed a little too light-hearted to let her run around and she was getting too frustrated being held, so we found a nice patch of grass far from the action and hung out with my friend and her peaceful, calm (and apparently patriotic) baby. Alright, I've got something to admit. I couldn't remember if it was "laying" or "lying" and so I used "reclined." I always do that. I was an English major, for Chrissake. Here's my new goal. I will look up and remember (finally) the correct usage. And, I just might.
