I parked in 2-hour parking today because I was running late to work and I knew I was going to go to Home Depot on my lunch hour to get a bunch of project stuff that we need. As usual I pushed it. There was a crafts fair at work and I got all side-tracked and ended up not going out to move my car until 1:15. Here's what followed:

1) As I was making a move for the elevator (door closing) a guy makes a "whoops, I forgot something" facial and hand gesture and scoots out of the elevator. The door reopens enough for me to slide in. Score. Only not score. Someone (I'm assuming that guy) had left behind the most hellacious fart. What an evil trick. There I was, innocent, travelling alone to the first floor in a stank-filled elevator with no one to blame. How would I explain when I exited and it filled up with a new load of people from the first floor? There's no way to explain. It's wrong to try. Only I was so dreading being silently blamed. The humanity! When I got to the first floor...no one was there. My heart filled with joy.

THEN....

2) I exited the building and as I walked toward my car I saw the flashing lights of a METER MAID in the general area of my car. I ran. Oh, how I ran. It was like that scene in Chariots of Fire. Only instead of athletic guys, it was me, in front of corporate offices, in the rain. When I arrived.....she was two cars away from mine. I quickly unlocked the passenger door (the driver door lock is broken from the creep who tried to break in my car) threw my body across the seat to unlock the driver door, ran around the car and got in just as the meter maid approached. Lord. I've never known such joy.

This sums up my day. Disasters diverted. Plus a bit of work thrown in and some homemade cards and magnets from the crafts fair. And, a lovely, wet kiss from my lovely, wet baby girl when I arrived home.

Hope your day was free of disaster too.
